Webster defines "heresy" as, "an opinion, doctrine, or practice contrary to the truth or to generally accepted beliefs or standards."In 1 Timothy 4:1 we are told: "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils." A Brief History of Good Faith - Part 1

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Good Faith      2015-03-26

The Adamic covenant or contract was made between God and the first man, Adam and by extension, between God and mankind. Since God will not, and cannot lie and remain as God, then God will not and cannot breach a covenant or contract and remain as God. Therefore, it is only man that acts in bad faith by lying, breaking and breaching covenants. The Adamic covenant was a mutual good faith contract that some refer to as the Edenic covenant while others try to separate the two. There were in fact, multiple covenants or contracts established between Adam and God in the form of agreements, promises, proclamations and pronouncements and statements of fact. These contracts were made both before and after what is referred to as the fall of Adam...

A Few Thoughts About Your Incorporated Ministry

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Incorporation      2011-04-08

Corporate Bylaws are to the corporation - what the Constitution is to the United States of America! Therefore, anything outside of your Bylaws - Is "un-constitutional" for your corporation! Ideally the Bylaws of your corporation should be written - As Articles of War in a time of peace to protect the corporation and its officers from any future attack. Therefore, I suggest that if any of your bylaws are based upon scripture, that the full text of said scripture be fully quoted within the text of that bylaw...

The following are scriptures which talk about righteousness, which may be better translated as: "a good reputation." Empowered are those that hunger and thirst for a good reputation for they will be fed to the full. (Matthew 5:6 TGV) Empowered are they who are persecuted for having a good reputation: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:10 TGV) Unless your reputation is better than the reputation of the scribes and Pharisees, there's no way that you can be a citizen of the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:20 TGV) ...

Just before Marcia and I got married, I went searching for a rent house to prepare as a home for my bride. Back a number of years ago we took a trip to the Grand Canyon. When we were there on the South Rim, they had tried as much as possible to keep everything looking natural. (i.e. there are no fences, or walls to keep you from killing yourself.) The only barriers that there were very easy to climb over or in many cases to step over. Now there were signs everywhere warning you to stay safely behind these barriers. The signs told how several people every year fall to their deaths over the edge of the mile deep canyon. There are earthquakes, strong gusts of wind, eroding earth and rocks and all kinds of hazards - but people being people, there were always still a few that you'd see out peering over the edge or standing with their toes dangling over the abyss...

Commitment Vs. Good Intentions

As the father of the bride, how are you going to feel about that? No matter how sincere the good intentions of the groom may be, those responses are certainly not a commitment. Dealing With Fear

This study is about fear. It is an important subject because of its prevalence in most of mankind on one level or the other. Parents have used fear to keep children out of the street. The media have used fear to sensationalize stories. Well-intentioned preachers have even used fear to save the lost. Man has been constantly bombarded by fear to the point that many find the adrenaline rush from fear to be enjoyable. The entertainment industry uses this kind of fear in making horror movies and in designing amusement park rides. Our earliest science classes in school taught that fear was a good and natural thing developed in man for his survival. In today's world, fears and phobias keep hundreds of thousands of psychiatrists and therapists in full time employment...

Does Tithing Have A Place In Christian Giving Today?

However, as you will see below, there are still valid applications of the tithe (or the tenth) for today's Christian giving...

The deficiencies are real, they will never be filled."2 This supposed column is actually saturated with "polystrate fossils" (fossils extending from one geologic layer to another) that tie all the layers to one time-frame. How God's GRACE actually works: (God's "Grace" is NOT what most religious people think it is.) Unfortunately we must first define terms. Like the word "faith," the word "grace" has many different definitions, uses and misuses. To simplify this, let's reduce these definitions, when it refers to God, to "favor." When coming from God, that favor primarily comes in two forms: Regular everyday favor in many forms and that special favor that only comes from being a child of God. One of the expressions of that special favor only available to a child of God I what the Bible calls "grace." ...

How to 'Assay' Your Faith

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Faith      2003-11-23

Religious tradition says that verse 7 of 1 Peter 1 teaches that when we as Christians, go through hell here on earth - we should just 'suck it up' and if it doesn't kill us (or even if it does) somehow that brings glory to God and and us - when we get to Heaven. So what that implies is that your suffering is allowed (if not sanctioned) by God - and that our life here is some kind of twisted endurance test. Well nothing could be further from the truth...

How To Accidentally Get Baptized In The Holy Spirit

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Holy Spirit      2011-09-07

First you need to join some 7th day religious cult and get really deeply indoctrinated; this usually takes about 30 years and requires that you marry a devotee to said cult. During this time, you need to fill your mind with church doctrine, biblical speculation and lots of meaningless Bible trivia - but nothing actually helpful like healing scriptures. Then you need to get some imminently fatal, yet incurable, disease. Next you get every minister in that organization that will, to anoint you with oil and pray for you and try every possible cure, supplement and therapy, both plausible and totally crack-pot. When that doesn't work, having no faith of your own, you recruit around 1000 folks, including several prisoners at the maximum security wing of the state prison to pray for you. And after fully enduring every therapy, having diligently taken over 200 supplement pills every day, you realize that none of it has helped at all. And having run out of people to ask to pray for you, run out of options and run out of h

Go privately and confront him concerning his breach, just you and him alone: and if you and he can come to an understanding, you have regained the friendly contractual relationship (and no one else need know about it). But if he refuses to listen to you, then (and only then)...

Impugning Motives

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Judgement      2017-07-29

Impugning motives is the presumption and judgment of another's guilt without benefit of any further hearing. Sin ... Is it OK to actually talk about sin anymore? If faith (good faith) refers to any good faith commitment to enter into a good faith relationship bound by any type of contract, agreement, covenant, offer or trust, then "sin" is the breaching of that relationship regardless of who the parties of that relationship are. It is equally possible to sin against another person as it is to sin against God. Therefore "sin" is actually a breach of contract or, perhaps better stated, a breach of relationship...

Is God A Vending Machine?

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Receiving From God      2002-02-12

A while back I heard that someone had slandered our ministry by saying, among other unkind things, that we teach that "God IS a vending machine". A thoughtless saying that was undoubtedly verbally handed down from one of the religious radio vigilantes who make it their job to slander other servants of God who don't fit into their theological comfort zone. I really don't care about man's theology. And, I can honestly say that this type of persecution doesn't bother me in the least. I mean, we live in a free country and the worst thing these kind of people can do to me is to shoot their mouths off. What DOES bother me though, is the multitudes of people that are kept in the bondage of lifeless religious tradition under the guise of defending THEIR "faith."...

Is Saying "Christ" the Same As Saying "Jesus"?

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Name of Jesus      2011-07-29

Too many Christians use the word "Christ" as a replacement or synonym for Jesus. God gave His Son a Name to which every other name in the universe is to bow. That name is Jesus. Our God is the only one we can put our complete confidence in. His Word will never fail us. He tells us that He watches over His Word to perform it. His Word is a promise - a law. When we put our faith in Him - He makes sure we receive! That is absolutely good news! Isn't it? When God tells us something in the Word - It is a "done deal." God will never lie to us. God has no sin - no darkness in Him at all. When we read the Word, we are hearing a promise from God's mouth to our ears. We must keep our ears from the lies of the devil...

So often we find ourselves placed into categories with hurtful labels such as "loser," "nerd" or seemingly flattering labels - "cool" or "sophisticated." The circles into which we are welcomed depend in large part on how we look and act. Parents stress and struggle over getting their child into the "right" kindergarten, so he can go to the "right" grammar/high school and ultimately wind up entering the "best" college - just so long as we/our children are considered to be a part of the "in crowd," part of the most exclusive circle. What is in a hug? Why is it - that when we see a lost child found that the parents hugs the child so hard that the child says, "Mommy, Daddy, You're SQUISHING me!" Recently I had another revelation from God. The simple phrase, "Spirit Envelopes Spirit" and then a short clip or flash of the "upper room" during the impartation of the Holy Spirit...

Staying Positive In A Negative World

Marcia Greenwood     Topic: Faith      2008-08-20

It is very important for us to stay positive in a negative world. It is our decision to stay positive. It is our decision to live in peace, not in frustration with the way things are going. It is our personal choice how we live in this life. We can choose to see the good in things, the good in people, the good at our jobs. Why not chime in on a conversation and bring out some of the positive things in this world. You may just get some people thinking differently...

Submission And Control

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Submission      2012-05-20

In the Book of Genesis, God gave man authority and dominion over everything in and upon the planet Earth's land, sea and air, EXCEPT other men and women. In fact, the only legal authority and dominion, i.e. control, that you have over any other human being is that which has been submitted to you by those individuals. The only exception to this is your children who live in your household and have yet to reach an age of accountability, and individuals who have been legally incarcerated. Other than this, you should never allow anyone, or anything for that matter, to control you, other than you. Plus, you have the God-given responsibility to control, i.e. exercise authority and dominion over, everything around you..

The Holy Spirit

Marcia Greenwood     Topic: Holy Spirit      2003-12-17

We, as Christians need to learn about the Holy Spirit and let him move with power in our lives. He will bring us joy as we never knew it before. The Holy Spirit lives in us and when we come to him and ask him he will teach us about God and Jesus and himself. The Holy Spirit has a personality and will not force anything on us, but as we open ourselves up to him he will teach us so we can get to know God and what his will for us is. We learn the will of God by reading his word, the Bible...

The Importance Of Patience

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Faith      2002-12-28

We all should already know that without faith - we cannot please God. (Hebrews 11:6) So, we know the importance of faith. We all should already know that the Bible defines faith as "...the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1) So, we see that hope is actually a prerequisite for faith. But there is another very important element connected to faith that is too often overlooked. And that important element of faith is patience...

The Importance Of Wisdom

Marcia Greenwood     Topic: Wisdom      2015-03-26

Most people have a inherent desire to live their lives with wisdom. And this is especially important since we all make so many daily decisions, both large and small. There is worldly wisdom, which can be great, and then there is Godly wisdom. We should use both, but we should always use Godly wisdom first. I recently heard a great definition of wisdom: Wisdom is comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God...

The Kind of Faith That Pleases God

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Good Faith      2012-10-25

Philippians 2:8 says, "For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" but what does that really mean? We were sinners saved by grace. You were by Old Covenant standards in breach of contract, which was punishable by death, and were saved from that death sentence only through the favor that comes through being a child of God, in the form of an optional grace clause exercised - if, and only if, you received Jesus as your Lord and King, were adopted by God the Father and expressed some form of genuine repentence...

The Lord's Example Prayer

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Prayer      2003-12-17

When I was a child, I prayed to God. Later in life, I found out that Jesus was my Lord and Savior, and being confused, began praying to God and Jesus. Still later, I learned a little about the Holy Spirits' role in the God head and rather than leave anyone out, I prayed to all of them, still not completely sure of what I was 'supposed' to be doing. Then I got back to basics, and believed that if the word of God said it... it is good enough for me. I went back to the example prayer that Jesus taught his disciples...

The Myth of the Separation of Church and State

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Freedom of Religion      2002-11-05

Anytime religion is mentioned within the confines of government today people cry, "Separation of Church and State". Many people think this statement appears in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution and therefore must be strictly enforced. However, the words: "separation", "church", and "state" do not even appear in the first amendment. The first amendment reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

The Old Testament In The Light Of The New Testament

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Bible Reading      2003-12-17

I, like all too many other Christians was taught first from the Old Testament and then the New Testament. This was continually reinforced by ministers who attended seminaries and Bible Schools where one of the first Bible classes they were required to take was "Old Testament Survey" or "OTS." In retrospect, I believe this put a "spin" on my later study of the New Testament. To the extent - that when the Holy Spirit began to teach me in 1997, I literally had to "throw out" nearly everything I had learned in the previous 30 years of Bible study - and completely start over. As a result of re-studying the Bible - First the New Testament and then the Old (in light of the New) I have learned far more in the last 7 years than the cumulative total of the previous 30 years. And most importantly, in the process, I believe that I have come to know the very heart of God...

The Sovereignty Of God

Jesse Duplantis     Topic: God      2001-05-11

When bad things happen and people don't know what to say there is a word that inevitably comes up to explain the problem away. It's sovereignty, the theological term, which refers to the unlimited power of God, and preachers just love it. When healing doesn't manifest or when babies die and hurricanes blow houses away, the sovereignty of God seems to be the most common reason. "He's God," they say, "He's sovereign and can do whatever He wants to do." That sounds good, doesn't it? And it's true, except when it comes to the Word of God...

The Suffering Doctine...A Doctrine Of Devils?

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Suffering      2004-03-31

For nearly 1700 years, the devil has put sickness and disease on members of the Body of Christ. He has burdened them with poverty. He has oppressed them at every turn. And they haven't even fought back - because they thought they were suffering for Jesus. Some people become really defensive when it comes to this particular doctrine. They're protective of it because they learned it from their dear, old grandmother, or from the Sunday school teacher who taught them their first Bible stories...

The Truth About Christian Brokenness

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Doctrine      2004-01-15

You and I both have heard sermons about how 'Brokenness' is 'good' for us. How it softens our hearts and makes us sensitive and responsive to the Holy Spirit and how it develops spiritual maturity and character. And Psalms 51:17 is always quoted to support this teaching. Let's talk about this scripture. The reason this scripture is always used is because it is the ONLY scripture in the Bible that 'seems' to say anything 'positive' about brokenness. I believe that a teaching should be based upon 'two or three witnesses' of scripture - but there are no others...

The What Abouts

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Doctrine      2003-12-17

We occasionally, receive two questions from sincere people that have been exposed to the traditional religious teaching concerning God's promises of healing and provision for us. These two questions, and the passages they refer to, have all too often been used as a 'spiritual' fire extinguisher to quench the flame of hope and faith in the hearts of those that would believe what God says is true. These two questions seem to always be preceded with two words. Some use these words to simply ask, and others seem to 'throw down the gauntlet', with them. The words are "What About ...", and for that reason we call these questions, "The What Abouts". The two questions are: What about Paul's 'thorn in the flesh'? and What about Job?...

The Whole Armor of God

Tim Greenwood     Topic: Armor      2005-01-05

My reason for presenting this subject is this. When I was so desperately ill and was told that there was no hope for me, I didn't know any of this. I mean, I knew as head knowledge, what the scripture said and what the parts of the armor were, but I didn't know in my heart what it all was supposed to mean to me. I didn't know what was included in salvation, or how to use the sword and shield. I did not know that I was made the righteousness of God and what all that that meant for me, in fact I was taught how unworthy I was and how I should think of myself as a lowly worm. And my concept of the gospel other than that the 'Greek' meant 'good news' -- was totally off. The lack of this knowledge very nearly cost me my life. And, I don't want it to cost you yours...

It only has to happen once, and you remember. Three Days & Three Nights

Yesterday, I was watching a nationally known Pastor on television giving an Easter message. During this message he began to refer to 'black Friday' (or good Friday). That is to say that they have been wronged (or sinned against) and they refuse to forgive the person, which we find in Mark 11:25. Nowadays, every persistent twinge or ache has someone anxiously asking Have you consulted your doctor?" I reluctantly took that advice in November 1996, having no clue of what a life-changing journey awaited me.
