Christ is NOT Jesus' Last Name!

And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of, the ANOINTING. (Isaiah 10:27)

Luke 4:17: (Here Jesus, reads Isaiah 61...)And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,vs 18: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,vs 19: To preach the acceptable year of the Lord... (and he stopped!)vs 20: And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.vs 21: And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

But why did he stop reading in the middle of a verse? Because, that was as far as had been fulfilled up to that time. And the rest would not be fulfilled until, Jesus died and was resurrected and until the church began at pentecost.

Isaiah 61:1: The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;vs 2: To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD... (this is where Jesus stopped reading)

(But, now that he is resurrected, and the Holy Spirit has come and the church is in place, we are ready for the fulfillment of the rest!)

...and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;vs 3: To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.vs 4: And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolation's, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolation's of many generations.vs 5: And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vine dressers.vs 6: But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.vs 7: For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.vs 8: For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.vs 9: And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed.vs 10: I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.vs 11: For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.(...and you can read the rest of Isaiah in your bible...)

Now, you may be asking, What does all this have to do with Christ?

In Dan 9:23-26 Danial the Prophet speaks of the Messiah, an Anointed One that would appear in Israel and become their King.  Ever since the Jew have been looking for this Messiah.

John 1:41  He (Andrew) first findeth his own brother Simon (Peter), and saith unto him, We have found the Messias (Messiah), which is, being interpreted, the Christ.   Christ is Greek for the Hebrew word "Messiah."  Both translate to The Anointed One and/or The Anointing.

John 4:25 John 4:25  The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias (Messiah) cometh, which is called (translated into the Greek) Christ:  When he is come, he will tell us all things.John 4:26  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee I am he.  Jesus told the woman that HE was the Messiah or Christ that they had been waiting and watching for.

This is about the ANOINTING. Jesus was anointed by God. He was the Anointed One.The 'Anointed One' in Hebrew is translated, 'Messiah'. The 'Anointed One' in Greek is translated, 'Christ'.So, when we say Jesus Christ, we are actually saying: Jesus, the Anointed One of God, that came to remove the burdens and to destroy the yokes of the devil, by the power of God, on human flesh, through the Holy Spirit.

When Paul, Peter, James, Jude and others came along after pentecost, they preached the 'Gospel of Christ' or that is to say, the 'Gospel of the Anointed One and his anointing. So, what was the gospel that they preached?Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

PS:  I add this only because several people have been frustrated after reading this article because they only read the article to find out what Jesus' last name really was.  At first I thought they were kidding.  But after several inquiries I thought I'd better go ahead and address this question.Last names (or Sir names) were not commonly used until well after 1160 A.D. which is of course more than 1,160 years after Jesus died.  Prior to this time, if there was ever any confusion with another persons name, then the place they were from, what they did as a trade or some other title - was added to their name.  For example: Joseph the carpenter   Joseph of Arimathaea.  Mary Magdalene was actually Mary of Magdala, which was where she was from. This is why Jesus was called Jesus of Nazareth.  Pontius Pilate was really Pontius 'the firm,' which is what 'Pilate' means in Latin.  This is how many of you got your last names.  Trades - Tailor, Cooper, Carpenter, Baker, Mason, Smith, etc. Places - Johnston (John's Town), York, Carlton, London, Middleton, etc.  I think you get the idea! So, What WAS Jesus' last name?  He did not have one.
