We all want a better life; we want true changes to take place, desire peace, love, happiness and prosperity. Solomon wrote the book of Proverbs so we would know wisdom, have instruction and gain understanding. The book of Proverbs is a wonderful book to read through, meditate on and then determine to act on to change our lives and live the way God has planned for us. In total victory! The Bible says that when we seek God we will find Him, when we seek Him with all of our hearts. God is not is the business of hiding anything from us, but reveals to us the mysteries - the answers - to all we want to know.Beginning with the first chapter, Solomon tells us how to obtain wisdom and knowledge. But he also warns that fools reject this knowledge and wisdom. So, lets determine not to be one of the foolish ones OK!Proverbs 1:7 says - The beginning of wisdom is the fear (reverence) of the Lord. Know that we are not to be afraid of God in anything - He loves us and wants the best for us - He is the best Father is the world! But the word fear here is to honor, worship and show reverence to Him. We honor God with our obedience; we show Him that we want to please Him and only Him. How wonderful, for God or any parent for that matter, to know that their children hear them (vs. 8) and take their advice thereby not making costly and hurtful mistakes in their lives. When we choose to change our lifestyles to line up with the word of God we are making profitable changes and this honors and pleases God. This is giving reverence to God.Godly wisdom is a wonderful blessing, we are never left wanting for any other instruction in life. When we learn from this wisdom, we can live happy, abundant, joy filled lives on this earth. God wants us to prosper; spirit, soul and body. We can have one total package of prosperity, with nothing missing and nothing broken, but all three areas working together smoothly.Verse 10-19 admonishes us to steer clear of sin. "Walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path."This is wisdom at its best - we need to choose to stay away from sin and darkness that leads to death. Jesus is light and in Him is no darkness at all. As Christians we are the light of Jesus shining in this dark world.Verse 20-23 Wisdom is not silent; we have plenty of warning before things happen; wisdom cries out for all to hear. So daily we need to ask God for His wisdom and ask to hear the leading of the Holy Spirit and learn from His teaching. The Bible says that we reap what we sow. So if we are refusing godly wisdom then we will reap the consequences, verse 24-31. We produce the fruit we partake of by our choices, by our words and by our actions. Is your fruit good, pleasant, full of peace and safety, or full of bitterness, trouble and sorrow? No matter where we are now in life, each of us can change our life by receiving the wisdom of God and begin living life God's way. God promises to add no sorrow to it.Verse 33 ends the first chapter in Proverbs with wonderful godly wisdom and instruction - whoever hearkeneth (hears and does) unto Me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.James 1:5 lets us know that when we lack wisdom then all we have to do is ASK - no begging allowed - And God will gladly give it to us.Pray the prayer found in Ephesians 1:17-20, it begins with asking God to give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you may know Him better.Desire the wisdom of the Lord and you will receive! This is a promise of God.There are many "pearls of wisdom" to glean from the book of Proverbs.
