Bible Study on Faith and Healing

The Word of God says that:  Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for.  Jesus has given all of us that are born again a measure of faith.  God’s word teaches us what faith is and how we must learn to use our faith, we need it everyday of our lives.

Through my studies, I have compiled a Bible Study on Faith.  God’s Word is so very exciting.  Before you begin reading through the study, ask the Holy Spirit to open your mind and teach you, and don’t forget to get your bible.

(All scriptures from the NIV unless otherwise indicated.)Heb. 12:2
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

Rom. 10:17
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

John. 17:17
Thy word is truth.

John. 16:13
The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth.

Ps. 119:105
Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path.

God’s word is so simple, that we almost miss it, we add to it, subtract from it, and read between the lines.  But we need to learn to totally trust God and accept his word as the Holy Spirit teaches us and do it!

Isa. 53:4-5
Surely He hath borne our grief’s, and carried our sorrows: (weakness, pain, sickness) yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities:  the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with His stripes we are healed.

I Pet. 2:24
Who His own self bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes you were healed.

Jesus already healed us when He was beaten and put to death on the cross.  We now need to learn to receive our healing.

Mk. 11:22-24
Have Faith In God.  I tell you the truth, if anyone Says to this mountain
(i.e. any problem, sickness, whatever) throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him!

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, BELIEVE that you have RECEIVED IT and it WILL be yours.

Heb. 11:2
NOW faith is being sure of what we hope for and being certain of what we do not see.  This is what the ancients were commended for.
By faith we understand that the earth was formed by God’s command: so that what is seen was not made of what was visible.

Mt. 21:21-22
I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, If you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, (Jesus withered it) but you can move mountains.
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

John. 14:12-14
I TELL YOU THE TRUTH, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing.  He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.  And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.  You may ask me for anything, in my name, and I will do it.

HOW MUCH FAITH DO WE NEED ?

Mt. 17:20
The disciples could not heal because they were unbelieving and because they had so little faith.  Jesus said to them, I tell you the truth, If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, then you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there” and it Will move.  Nothing will be impossible for you.

Luke. 17:5-6
The apostles said to Jesus, “Increase our Faith” Jesus replied, If you have faith as small as a mustard seed you can say to this mulberry tree, “Be uprooted and be planted in the sea” And it will obey you.  Notice he didn’t say OK, he told them that a small amount was sufficient.

Rm. 12:3
…Think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the Measure of faith God has given you.

Ja. 1:6-8
When you ask you must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave in the sea, tossed by the wind.
The doubter will not think he will receive anything from God, he is a double minded man, unstable in all he does.

Ja. 2:14-26
Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.  Show me your faith without actions and I will show you my faith by what I do.  You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without actions is useless.  Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar. You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.  As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without actions is dead.

John. 20:27
Jesus told Thomas, to stop doubting and believe.
FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH

I Tim. 6:12
Fight the good fight of faith.

Eph. 6:10-17
Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one (Satan).  Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of the dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day comes that Satan tries to attack us we may be able to stand our ground, and after you have done everything to stand.  Stand firm then, with the Belt of Truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place and with your feet shod with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  In addition to this take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

I Cor. 16:13
Be on your guard; Stand Firm in the faith, have courage, be strong.

I Pet. 5:8-9
Be self controlled  and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm  in the faith.

Phil. 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

Rm. 10:17
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Rm. 10:8
Thy word is near me, even in my mouth, and in my heart, that is the word of faith.

Proverbs. 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.  We can not trust God without trusting his word.  When we trust in the Word with all our heart, and stop leaning upon human reasoning and stop looking to people for deliverance then we have actions that correspond with our faith.

* It takes some of us a long time to learn this, because we have been walking in the wrong pathway.   Resorting to human methods and reasoning instead of trusting Jesus brings confusion to our spirit.  It brings weakness and failure to our life.

* Satan is our worst enemy, he does everything to defeat us and sow doubt in our mind. He works with our flesh and natural human reasoning, he limits us to our own abilities. We look to problems, tests and storms and say we can’t, we limit ourselves before we even try.  We condemn ourselves with our own mouth.

* If natural forces come against you, they cannot defeat you, because there aren’t enough natural forces in all the world to conquer the Holy Spirit dwelling in you.

I John. 4:4
Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.  We are fortified from within.

* Storms come to all of us — (sickness, financial problems, family problems, depression, emotional stress or other trials).   It’s not the storms that defeat us — But OUR REACTION to the storms.  As the winds blow and the floods come,  HE WHO BELIEVES AND TAKES ACTION will hold fast to his confession of faith, because we know God cannot fail.  If storms come we need to stand our ground and refuse to accept it!  We need to act on God’s word.

* If we say and confess that God is the strength of our life, but we continue to talk about our weaknesses and lack of faith we will be defeated because there are no corresponding actions.

Heb. 11:6
Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

THERE ARE MANY INSTANCES OF FAITH IN THE BIBLE

Mt. 9:27-29
The blind man asked Jesus to have mercy on him and heal him.  Jesus asked him “Do you believe that I am able to do this.  Yes Lord, he said.  Jesus said, according to your faith it will be done to you.

Acts 14:9
Paul saw that the man had the faith to be healed, so he said “stand up on your feet” and the man jumped up and walked.

Luke 5:20
Jesus saw the faith of these men, through their actions (Lowering the man through the roof to get him to Jesus).  Jesus forgave the man and healed him.

Mt. 14:24-31
Jesus told Peter to come on the water towards him, Peter began to walk on the water, then he began to look at the waves and wind and began to sink.  He started looking towards what he could see and feel and not on Jesus.  Jesus said to him “O ye of little faith, Why did you doubt”?

Acts 3:16
By faith in the name of Jesus, this man was made whole.  It is Jesus name and the faith that comes through him that has given this man complete healing.

Mk. 9:21-29
A man’s son was demon possessed.  He asked Jesus But if you can do anything, take pity us and help us.  Jesus said If you can, you say to me!  Everything is possible to him who believes.

Luke 8:50
Jesus was telling the man:  Don’t be afraid; just believe and your daughter will be healed.
THERE ARE A NUMBER OF ENEMIES TO FAITH

1. Failure to understand what it means to be a new creature in Jesus.

2 Cor. 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Jesus, he is a new creature:  old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.

* A lack of understanding of what it means to be a new creature hinders our faith.  After baptism we have Jesus living in us.  We can do all things through Christ who lives in us.

2. Thinking we are sinful and can not come to Jesus.  We tend to think of ourselves as unworthy.

For He has made Jesus to be sin for us who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.  The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.  Therefore, by the new birth, we became a righteous creature.  We can now stand in His presence without guilt or shame.

Rm. 3:21-24
But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and Prophets testify.  This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.  There is no difference, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Jesus.

3. Failure to understand our right and authority to use Jesus name.

Phil. 2:8-11
…Jesus humbled himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross.  Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Ja. 2:19
Even the demons believe there is a God  and shudder.

Luke 10:17
Even the demons are subject to us in your name.

John. 16:23-24
I tell you the truth, my father will give you anything you ask for in my name.  Until now you have not asked for anything in my name.  Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.  Can we be joyful when we are sick, or depressed?

* When we fully realize the power of Jesus name, then we can defeat Satan and enjoy victory.

4. Failure to Act Upon The Word.

If we know that God’s word is true, and act as if it is true, it becomes a reality in our lives.

Ja. 1:21-22
Humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.  Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.  DO WHAT IT SAYS!

Proverbs. 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding.

Step out and claim our victory.  Instead of trying to believe, act on the Word.

5. Failure to Hold Fast to Our Confession of Faith.

Confession of our hearts and lips — when these two harmonize then we become mighty in our prayer life.
Eventually we become what we confess with our mouths, either good or bad.

We are defeated when we our negative, and when we talk about weaknesses and failures, Satan comes along right away and kicks our feet out from under us!

The steps to faith are so simple that they almost seem foolish.

Mk. 5:24-34
The woman had a blood disease for 12 years.

The 1st step she took was a confession of faith, she Said if only I could touch his cloak I will be whole.  Remember if we are defeated, we are defeated with the words of our mouth.

Proverbs. 6:2
You are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth.

The 2nd step is to act on your faith or your words.  The woman touched Jesus clothes.

The 3rd step  She received her healing.

There is an unseen power at work in the earth that is neither deadly or dangerous.  That power is always present everywhere.  That power can deliver us from anything that binds or hurts us.  It is the power of God.

The 4th step is to tell others what happened to us.  Praise Jesus for His healing and love.

I Sam. 17:45-54
When David was young he said to the Philistine giant.  YOU come to me with a spear, sword and shield, BUT I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you hast defied.  THIS DAY the Lord will deliver you into my hands.  So that this assembly will know that the Lord doesn’t save with the sword or spear, for the battle is the Lords.

* David 1st SAID to the giant.

2nd he took action, reaching for the stone to slay him.

3rd he received victory for the Israelites over their enemies the Philistines.

4th David  told others, he took the head to prove to others it was done.
SOME OF US FEEL UNWORTHY TO COME BEFORE GOD

John. 1:2
To all who receive Jesus, to those who believe in His name, He gave the right to become sons of God.

John. 3:18
Whoever believes in Him is Not condemned, but whoever does not believe already stands condemned because he does not believe in the name of God’s one and only son.

Acts 16:31
Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.

Rm. 3:21-22
A righteousness from God, apart from the law, has been made known…
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus to all who believe.

God’s word is simple … believe in the name of Jesus and you will be saved, ask God in prayer for something, believing you will receive and He will give it to you.

WE NEED TO BEGIN RECEIVING ALL GOD’S BLESSINGS FOR US!

Luke. 12:22-31
Don’t worry about our life.  Consider how the lilies grow.  O you of little faith, how much more the Lord cares for you than the grass or birds.

Rm. 1:17
The righteous WILL live by faith.

II  Cor. 5:7
We live by faith, NOT by sight.

Col. 1:22-23
We are reconciled to God through Christ’s physical body through death, to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation … If you continue in your faith, established, firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel.

* Wrap yourself in the promises of God and don’t try to do it on our own.

OUR HEALING COMES BY FAITH

Jesus has completed his part, He died for us, he has forgiven our sins and by His stripes we were healed.

III  John :2
Beloved I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in good health.

When we say we can’t  get healed, our words are already talking for us. (If we say I hope, I’ll get better or maybe, I’m not sure, I’m not worthy).  These are all negative. We need to BELIEVE when we ask God and talk the talk of faith.  Thank you for my healing, speak positive words, rebuke Satan, stand firm until the manifestation comes.

* It’s not something big that keeps us from being healed — NO it’s our own wrong thinking and our own declaration of unbelief.

* Many things happen because we expect them to happen in a certain way.  They happen because we believe and talk it and it comes to pass as we believe (either for the good or bad). (I feel so sick today, my parents had heart problems so I guess I will too, after 40 we get arthritis, I’m as blind as a bat without my glasses, I was scarred to death etc.).

* Begin today to watch over the words you say out of your mouth, correct all the bad things to positive things. ( No I will not get the flu, Thank you Father for your healing and I am not in line for heart problems etc.).

* We prepare to fail– We think it, believe it, then do it.

* As believers we have no business talking doubt, failure or fear!  We should talk faith!

* If I believe the opposite of what God’s word says, then I stop Jesus healing of me right in it’s tracks.

* If Satan can keep our faith from being released in Jesus– then he can keep us sick, poor and in TOTAL MISERY.

* If you are at the bottom of the ladder, it is because you have not believed for more. If we talk right and believe right, then we will climb to the top.

* Doubt and fear go hand in hand and are of the devil.  Faith and love go hand in hand and are of God.

I John. 4:18
Perfect love casts out fear.

* Every spirit filled believer has within him the power to claim God’s best for us.  If we are living beneath our privileges, it is not because of lack of power,  but because of a failure to release that power through faith.

* Once you have prayed in faith you must stand your ground until the manifestation comes.  This is extremely important.  Do not let Satan, your own flesh, or anyone else talk you our of your healing.  Jesus has already healed you, it is now up to you to fight the good fight of faith.  Stand firm on the Word and believe God for results.
Give God His own timing, not ours to do something with our circumstances.

Eph. 6:10-14
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is NOT against the flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything , to stand.  STAND FIRM!

BECOME LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN, JUST TRUST IN GOD!

John. 20:30-31
Jesus did many miracles, so that you may believe that Jesus is the anointed one and that by believing you may have life in his name.

John. 14:11-14
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. (Preaching, Healing).  He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.  And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.  You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it!

Ps. 103:3
Praise God, who forgives all your sins AND HEALS ALL YOUR DISEASES!

Mk. 11:22-23
The God kind of faith is the kind of faith in which a man believes with his heart and says with his mouth.

GOD’S WORD IS STRONG ABOUT FAITH

Heb. 10:38
My righteous on will live by faith, and if he shrinks back I WILL NOT BE PLEASED WITH HIM.

Ja. 1:21-25
Humbly accept the word of God planted in you, which can save you.
Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourself  DO WHAT IT SAYS!
If you just hear the word, but not do it, you won’t remember what to do when you need it.

Heb. 11:6
Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him MUST BELIEVE  that He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
I Cor. 11:28-30
A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.
For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.
That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

Luke 18:8
When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?

God’s Word is very simple, straightforward and powerful.  Trust in God, have faith in Him.  He want’s us to surrender to Him and come to Him like little children.  (Little innocent kids just trust).  Just trust God and it will become easier and easier, you will soon begin to wonder why you and I have put all these barriers between God and us.
If we are obeying His word then we are told we can ask anything in His name and He will give it to us.

We need to believe God’s word and NOT what we have been taught to believe in the past.

God want’s His best for us NOW.  By using our faith and Jesus name we CAN WIN OVER SATAN.  Jesus said BE OF GOOD CHEER I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.  WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!

Just reach up your hands to God and ask the Holy Spirit to teach you to have total faith in God and His Word of Truth, and then follow His lead.

Praise God Almighty for He is Always with us, He takes hold of our right hand and will NEVER leave us or forsake us.
